Top 10 car values rated by insurer USAA

Toyota’s Prius hybrid sedan, Toyota Highlander crossover SUV and the Toyota Camry midsize sedan lead the list of 10 vehicles, the most of any single automaker. Mazda and Honda/Acura each get two.

In choosing the list for the fourth year, USAA said it considered safety, reliability and affordability. The list came out just before Ford revealed earlier this week that it was scaling back the gas mileage ratings of six models, including the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.

This year’s standards include stricter safety standards in ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 10 were chosen from 24 finalists.

“IIHS’s move to increase their standards mirrors the growing feedback we’re receiving from our members,” says Steve Thompson, vice president responsible for the USAA Car Buying Service, in a statement. “We know safety is one of the most important factors for our members when car shopping.”

The list includes:

  • Small Sedan: Toyota Prius.
  • Wagon: Mazda Mazda3 Hatchback.
  • Midsize Sedan: Toyota Camry.
  • Minivan: Honda Odyssey.
  • Coupe: Chevrolet Spark
  • Midsize Luxury Sedan: Lincoln MKZ
  • Small SUV: Mazda CX-5
  • Large Luxury Sedan: Volvo S80
  • Midsize SUV: Toyota Highlander
  • Midsize Luxury SUV: Acura MDX
